X-Men and Halle Berry

Am I the only person who isn’t excited about Halle Berry being in the upcoming X-Men movie?  I just feel ‘meh’ about it.  Tell me Patrick Stewart is going to be in it and WOOHOO!!  Tell me Ian McKellan is going to be in it and YAY!  But Halle Berry…um…no thanks.  I mean I have issues with the series anyway.  My husband and I refer to X-Men 3 as “The Movie That Doesn’t Exist.”  As for Wolverine, I think it had potential and I liked Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, until the end.  I mean, really?  REALLY?  The entire concept was just terrible.  Ugh.  And the adamantium bullet?  Are you kidding me?  It could have been so good and it ended up being so not good.

I’ll probably still go see it because X-Men.  I just can’t help myself.  I think I need an intervention.

Doctor Who and my husband

I finally got my husband to watch Doctor Who.  It isn’t that he wasn’t interested, just SO MANY SHOWS TO WATCH.  (I still have to get him to watch BSG…and Farscape…and Sherlock)  I started him off with Christopher Eccleston and he was hooked from the first episode.

:SPOILER: :SPOILER:

If you haven’t seen the end of Season 2, don’t read below the cut or after this sentence.  You have been warned.

Patrick Stewart Interview

Um, oops.  I completely forgot to post this, you know, over a month ago.  Even though it’s old by now, I’m posting it anyway because I love Patrick Stewart.  There can never be enough Patrick Stewart.  This also reminds me of that one time, at the end of October 2012, when I was going to go to a ComicCon in Austin…but I couldn’t (for various extenuating circumstances.)  And I cried.  No really.  I still get weepy because I REALLY wanted to meet Patrick Stewart.

Anyway, tangent over.

Worst Star Trek Characters

Geekosystem has a list of Star Trek characters fans don’t want to see again.  Just in case you don’t want to go read it all for yourselves, here is the list they’ve come up with:

  • Wesley Crusher
  • Natasha Yar
  • William T. Riker
  • Deanna Troi
  • Neelix
  • Lwaxana Troi
  • Q
  • Dr. Katherine Pulaski
  • Dr. Julian Bashir
  • Kathryn Janeway

I definitely agree on some of them.  I love Wil Wheaton, but Wesley was horrible.  Also, I never cared for Dr. Pulaski and yes, Riker annoyed me on occasion.  As for Counselor Troi, well, I just don’t think she was a very well-written character.  She had her moments, but was used mostly as a plot device (as was Wesley, really.)

What are your thoughts?  Do you agree, disagree?  Any characters not on the list that you think should be?

Star Trek Into Darkness

So…I just read the plot synopsis for the next Star Trek movie.  I, hmm, well.  Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to see Benedict Cumberbatch and Simon Pegg.  But there’s this nagging little voice in my head that is telling me I’m only excited about this movie because it’s Star Trek.  That synopsis just really isn’t doing anything for me…at all.

Confession time.  I’ve never watched TOS.  I know, I know.  How can I call myself a Trekkie, blah blah blah.  The point is, TNG is my absolute favorite series and the J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek doesn’t feel like Star Trek to me.

There are certain things I liked about the movie (e.g., Simon Pegg and the special effects).  Still, overall, the movie just fell short of being Star Trek and I can’t help but suspect that Into Darkness will be the same.  Of course, I hope that it will exceed my expectations and blow me away.  Also, I hope that they haven’t decided to make Khan the villain.  Nobody (not even Benedict Cumberbatch) can compare to Ricardo Montalban.  Nobody.  And I love Benedict Cumberbatch.  I think most are speculating that the villain is going to be Gary Mitchell.  I had to look him up and from what I read, that could be interesting.

I’m just going to have to find the time to watch TOS.
